This is a beautiful of collection vintage Italian micro mosaic brooches I converted into necklaces from the 1960s to 1990s. Micro mosaic jewelry originated in late 18th-century Italy, a destination for wealthy Europeans traveling on the Grand Tour. Inspired by ancient Roman and Renaissance art, visitors often sought tangible keepsakes to bring home. The name “micro mosaic” refers to the infinite tiny pieces of cut glass, called tesserae, that artisans arranged by hand to create these intricate designs. I started collecting these a few years ago when I learned about them. I became enchanted by all of the delicate and impressive designs. I like to convert the brooches into wearable pendant necklaces with 18-20” colorful, inexpensive beaded chain to allow the colors to POP. I also let folks know that they can always upgrade the chain on their own if they so choose This helps to keep the items affordable and adorable! Most of the brooches are still intact if you should wish to convert back. All vintage micro mosaic items come with a Storybox.
This collection of vintage pendants, are not “puffy” pendants but single sided enameled on brass or copper. They are likely from the 60s or 70s. The Blue one is from Sarah Coverntry, a company that used to do in-home jewelry parties but has long been retired. The others are unmarked but have delightful funky designs in beautiful colors. I like to add 18-20” colorful, inexpensive beaded chain to allow the colors to POP. I also let folks know that they can always upgrade the chain on their own if they so choose, this helps to keep the items affordable and adorable! All vintage cloisonné items come with a Storybox.
This is a beautiful of collection vintage cloisonné brooches I converted into necklaces from the 1970s to 1980s. Cloisonné is the art of applying a delicate wire, usually gold, silver or brass intricately to create a design, then the “pockets” are filled with glass, enamel or gemstones, and kiln-fired to fill the void creating a beautiful textured colorful pattern or design. The technique originates from the Byzantine Empire and its popularity spread into China and Japan in the following years. The 1970s and 80s saw a Cloisonné Revival in the Western world. I have been collecting these gorgeous costume jewelry pieces since I was a kid.
